It is easy to think that. Bret Hart did jump ship from WWF to WCW, but then semi retired in 2000. Which was odd given how huge he was. WWF was trying to push own into being a replacement for Bret. But according to them, Owen never had the charisma or a good enough promo. He died from a head concussion on stage at a big PPV event.
