It's just a measure of how much time you've put into the game. Shit couldn't be more meaningless.
The only rank I can think of that you can take some pride in is with the Time Trial leaderboards, but even that's questionable since there's so many cheaters on it unless they've already cleaned it up from the last time I looked at it.
