As someone who has played several gacha games, I think relative to its peers it is worth the hype. However, without knowing your personal standards and expectations, I can't really tell you if you'll personally consider it "actually good" or not.
Early on it's pretty basic and blatantly just "here is that character you know" but it comes into its own as the first arc closes and the later chapters in Arc 2 are legitimately entertaining, building on existing lore, interesting concepts etc. Lostbelt 6 is standout in both its scale and execution and is good enough to a point I would even recommend non-FGO players who are hungry for Fate content but don't like gachas to watch it on youtube or something.
All that said I don't think anyone here can give you a good answer to your question. The best I can say is that if you like Type Moons other works, FGO does come into its own later on and stands alongside them quite well IMO.
