I play mostly on original hardware (thread pic is mine btw).
Got 5 cabs (2 Blast City, Aero City, Exceleena 2, Deco Cassette cocktail) and some PCBs.
Still use emus and ACA releases for training and cause I’m lazy.
Owning cabs is a pain in the ass. Half my arcade time is fixing shit instead of playing.
Last week I had to swap the entire JAMMA connector cause I’m a brute and snapped the ground pin.

Every private initiative is doomed to fail.
Preservation costs too much money, and even storage alone will eventually hit 5 figures a year.
On top of that, ownership of donations and games has to be secured.
People are greedy, so in case of conflict it always ends up tied to a single person or company. That’s why it has to be nationally funded.
