They get money for them.
They justify themselves with "it actually lowers cancer risk" when it doesn't or even increases it.

All health is huge business. Diet, supplements, healthcare, even research sleazily pressures people into treatments that they KNOW won't work for anything.

It's a business based of off ignorance. Mostly the consumer's ignorance, the providers justify their immoral acts with just enough knowledge and the rest is ignorance:
>Oh look a study that says cutting my dog's balls off decreases cancer risk.

They don't need anything else to be convinced. This is how human psychology works if you are not too neurotic or principled.

To escape this you either have the ability to understand science or find someone who you trust that does.
