Europe is more of a cultural term. Geographically, Europe is in fact a fake continent; just a peninsula in the more aptly named continent of Eurasia.
That's why people think of e.g. Germany, France or Italy when you mention Europe. Not the likes of Ukraine and Russia that are highly oriental in culture and roots.
