>could have just handed the data
Or we could just do nothing. The UK laws do not apply to us in any capacity.
>4chan never made any kind of real effort to verify or control the age of the user base
Actually, it's kind of funny. If you say you're underage on the site, you can get banned of course. But while it used to be that bans meant that you were unable to VIEW any of the content on the site (meaning that underage b& would no longer be able to see content not meant for them), it now only prevents you from posting (so underage b& can still go to /h/ or /gif/, they just can't come here to bitch about how hard high school is or whatever).
>If the UK put enough pressure, the US authorities will help them
The UK does not have the leverage to pressure the US into anything.
>4chan has an obligation (like any company on the internet) to respect the countries laws it operates into.
We only have the obligation to obey the laws of the countries we operate FROM. Again, you're the guy on the opposite side of the Canadian border who has to look at my signpost with Klee getting fucked on it. The information is transmitted, but it's transmitted from a country where it's not illegal. Sure, I'm breaking your country's laws. But the only people capable of arresting me are my own country's police, who have to only enforce my own country's laws. They can only enforce your country's laws when they overlap with mine. So for instance if I hack into your website, you can pull out my country's CFAA and bust me for it. But otherwise, the police will keep on dealing with real criminals.
