Basically that if someone's jealous of you or envies you for something you have, the evil eye will be on you kind of like a spell or curse/hex and you'll lose the good things people were jealous of you for. Here if you're superstitious (like that one hot science teacher i had in 6th grade) you say "xamsa" (lit. The number five in Arabic) three times with your hand open and that's supposed to ward off the evil eye. Some people even hang evil eye pendants like picrel in their car or house to prevent it from reaching inside their house.
