D5 duchess gamers, is it worth to put any maris or other defensive stuff in relic slots?

Have been one shot at lvl 15 with 32% full hp negation to non-anime attack (when i couldnt find literally any other defensive items in a run...).

All my relics are purely for DPS. Is this a compromise one must take when hit with bad rng?
