I'm 10 years too late to the conversation. But I think Underfell as a concept would've worked better if it was just the characters being unsettling but still behaving like their OG counterparts.
Like the entire time you'd be expecting one of the characters to do something seriously fucked up but it never happens, that would add to the intended creepiness of the setting. Also it would be way less hilariously edgy that way.
