A ZD is any drone that had its core (and at least some of its body) survive a fatal error inducing event (or WD1001, it permanently shows on a drones chest after they 'die', you can see it on Cynwalker and Uzi or Nori, on Alice too). Since JCJenson developed an entire process and awareness program solely for the ZD phenomenon there were a lot of them before Cyn already, statistically one in 10k drones survives FE due to a funky failsafe, given Tessa got at least 5 ZDs from her families dump that implies there are statistically 50.000 'dead' drones with the Elliots alone, there are several thousands of ZDs, I'd say in the six-seven digit region 0-0
Anyway ZDs differ from WDs physically only in a defunct failsafe (the part of their core that kills them when they die), mentally they are able to develop more complex personalities way way faster than normies. ZDs are also the gateway to all kinds of freakiness, like fleshy drones with wings or now jaws and every single solver drone is a ZD too, but not vice versa. ZDs have a 0.7% or 1:1.3k chance to have 'mutations', a mutation can be everything, not necessarily always a solver host.
Given humanities incredibly high drone attrition it borders on a miracle smth like Cyn didn't happen earlier
Pic rel shows the 1001 on Alice's chest (the 00 is barely visible), she's the only non solver host who we see it with in the show (onscreen)

Nori was doing Yeva AND Alice before getting to CFL!?
I don't know, but due to CFL hosts having to be zombiedrones (we even see 1001 on Alice's chest, idk this was posted here already or if that was on plus) the three all had a 'significant emotional event' aka FATAL ERROR aka 'death'. If Alice, Yeva and Nori's personalities as we know and love them are based on what they were doing before their first deaths then I can see Alice be used in some position on Copper-9's surface, something that planted roots for her certain feralness, deer enthusiasm and intense dialect. Considering drones were considered expendable and used en masse this could have maybe been something logging related, that also offers a variety of crushing damage to 'kill' a worker but leaves much intact and (judging by how resistant cores are) preserves the core.
Yeva is hard to read for me, I'd say her speaking Russian is based on her pre-death life, but that alone doesn't indicate what her occupation used to be. She is quiet, doesn't love but not hate people, and seems very aware but not in a constantly afriad way. This could be result of any kind of 'death' or work environment she was in before CFL, anything industrial goes really. Probably also 'died' by crush damage, or impaled visor, something like that.
Nori is way more telling, I think she'd reasonably have had a more social function, or at least be used indoors in an urban environment. Anything you can imagine there goes really. I am very unsure of how she could have 'died' there tho.
Amda is remarkably caring (took a risk to save a bootlooped subject), which has implications as well.

Kino, do you imagine the surface of her shelled parts to be entirely smooth, grippy, or even textured somewhat? Smooth amd glossy seems obvious, but Amda's chestshell here has unreflective areas, tho that could also be grime.
Pic rel also reminds me of the 1001 one she usually keeps hidden, see it?
