Windfag has to do with Sonic's characterization.
JP purist has to do with the origin of Sonic media when considering its validity
These are distinct concepts.
There are US Sonics are that are 'wind'y.
There are JP Sonics that lack wind.
A windfag would see US Sonic that's wind-y and recognize its wind nature and consider it in tune with the spirit of the character.
A JP purist would reject a wind-y US Sonic but be a-okay with anti-wind depictions of Sonic as long as they're written by Japanese authors.
It's possible to be both, though. Where you're a Japanese purist who thinks only Japanese media matters but of that Japanese media, only consider characterizations where Sonic is wind-y to be in tune with the spirit of the character, while rejecting any Japanese media that has a Sonic that is not the wind out of hand and rejecting American Sonic regardless of wind qualities out of hand.
