It's just envy, nothing more and nothing less. They know this is vastly superior to the shoebox apartments they'll be moving amongst their entire lives so they have to tear down people who can afford these homes to feel better. Sure, you can't walk much of anywhere, but that beats living on a noisy nigger infested street in the cit any day. A few of them might genuinely care about the environment enough to get mad that houses don't use energy as efficiently as apartment buildings, but those are likely few in number, it's basically all just envy.
