It’s more about being genuine. I watch deep art-house stuff myself, like Ryuusuke Hamaguchi’s Drive My Car and his 5 hour film about housewives and divorcees just living life. The difference is I don’t treat it like some untouchable masterpiece. Judging by how some people wear this show like a medal and how defensive they’ve been in this thread feels like they’re not being honest with themselves. Even NGE fans are upfront enough to admit their favorite show’s flaws.

I hung out in both the Reddit and /a/ discussion threads when the last episode aired, and the amount of pseuds was astounding. Some even admitted they didn’t understand a damn thing they just watched and still rated it 10/10 just because. Their whole “objective” rating system runs entirely on vibes, like you could show them 10 secs of Oppenheimer and they’d slap a 10/10 on it without even finishing it.

Caved, lmao. Couldn’t answer, so you went with the cop-out “it depends.”
