Zelda never needed to be this complicated. All it ever had to be was a random green guy (embodiment of man's capacity for good) fighting some super conceited shithead (embodiment of man's capacity for evil) duking it out over the power of the gods. And even if evil manages to get its hands on the power of the gods, the Master Sword's original purpose was to shut that evil person down anyways. It's a simple setup, it really was.
Now here we are, with Demon Kings and an extremely clingy (demi)goddess who does horrible things but never answers for them outside of self-pitying until the plot forgets what she did, all of which is on a mandate from karma itself to reoccur perpetually over the course of tens of thousands of years.
