> it really hurts to see people react negatively to me, whether it's because I said something awkward and they cringe, or because I'm boring and I can see the disinterest growing in their demeanor, it sucks and I've experienced it many times
Me too, but the best thing to do is to learn that's their fucking problem and not yours. You're not their singing dancing monkey for their entertainment. If they don't like the way you said something -- they can kill themselves for all you give a fuck.

Other people are the enemy, never give them quarter by allowing any negative emotional damage to come from them. Emotionally damage them in return too, cringe at them and react negatively to their bullshit -- it works the same.

/pol/ - "start your own business" phenomenon

It's because the only way to really earn a good living in this world is to be the owner of the whole enterprise and ensure all profits are going directly to you. A lot of younger people see this as a status booster too, they want to be seen as cool and rich to attract the best mates.

Not everyone can own their own business though, in reality, there are barriers to entry in every industry. They're all just looking for a way to be the owner position without the extensive capital investment to make it happen.
