>What went wrong on release compared to the EA?
Subjectively or objectively?
Subjectively, what it felt like:
>default human changed to a negress barbarian with 8 INT
>non-binary feminine penises
>vitiligo sliders
>the virgin "You need a guardian." vs the chad "Who do you dream of at night?"
>your character now makes quippy capeshit dialogue like "I've got a lot on my mind... or, in it, I suppose."
>tutorial nautiloid revamped to be like 1/3rd as long
>origin chars were originally all edgy cunts, devs claimed that they had to front load the evil chars because it was the only way to get players to playtest them, and that later on there would totally be a full roster of friendly good characters, promise
>akshually we already got the full cast of origin characters, and instead to cover their asses the devs just hastily rewrote all of them to be bland and focus group approved, rather than sticking to their original vision
>realm has been BLACKED, half of humans are from Chult, black elves, black dwarves, black halflings
>game actively encourages you to tadpolemaxx with zero penalties or drawbacks, doesn't even acknowledge or notice if you abstain
>act 1 polished from 3+ years of EA feedback
>act 2 rough around edges but playable
>act 3 runs like total shit and they blatantly cut almost half of it, (upper city) shoving finished content in random corners of the lower city
>devs claim there's 17,000+ ending permutations, but at launch there was like 3 or 4 tops
Objectively? They turned their plot and characters into mush through waves of rewrites and different writers undoing each others' work, and it's pretty clear that someone, be it Tencent, or WotC, or Hasbro, put their thumbs on the scale and insisted they add a ton of woke garbage. No one outside of Larian knows what really happened, we just know that they lied about a bunch of shit, took their giant pile of cash, never finished the game, and they've dropped it and it's "done".
