I've seen many movies where the first half is just introducing the cast and THEN the incident happens so we can be invested in our characters. That's always been a thing well before modern movies.
Also I thought film school and college in general sucked because liberals go there but whatever, I do agree that film school and learning fundamentals in film is important.
