Quite dark. I don't know that much about Nikke, but I'd imagine GFL's detailed worldbuilding makes its grimdark elements a lot more profound. It gets compared to Metal Gear a lot, and you get a lot of stories of various characters who aren't waifus at all just trying to make it between suffocating suffocating globalist utilitarianism on one side, and civilization-ending madness of science. It fronts as a story about machines learning to become more human, but it's actually about humans becoming machines.
GFL1 was originally intended to have all the main characters die in like the third major event (before they replaced the writer), and the road leading up to there is pretty grim, and that's before when people consider the story proper to start.
Reverse Collapse is set a long time after GFL, showing the world in an (arguably) even worse state. GFL2 doesn't really have that kind of writing yet, going more for the mass appeal, but there is a lot of fucked up shit in extra data that unlocks as you go through the story, which you can read for no reward.
