Which has not changed. He said it in Chapter 1, at the end of Part 1, He said this same thing during the Falling arc and his current actions in these recent chapters are the same.
Despite saying this he turns it down and treats women with respect at all opportunities.

Part 2 didn't "go back on Denji's character" it's been the exact same. He wants sex but "actually secretly he wants a real companionship".
It's always been like that, he just hasn't gotten the companionship. That will be the actual development.
