Sonic the Hedgehog and Donkey Kong Country both have the same problem of not being zoomed out enough so you can actually properly react to things suddenly appearing to fuck you over.
I think Sonic is still worse just because the special stages are probably some of the most insufferable minigames possible that require multiple reattempts of the levels so you can get the true ending.
