Affliction was the true end of Path of Exile 1. It was GGG just outright admitting that they've given up completely on the game. They literally gave mobs 99% damage reduction, 1000000% crit multi, 20 extra projectiles, and 900% attack speed and people were still trying to maximize maps for monster density because it literally didn't matter. I think at that point GGG realized it was impossible to actually balance the game.
