Let's not get too delusional.
Did the first Sonic design look like shit? Absolutely, I agree 100% it was a miscalculation. But the "solution" that emerged established a pathetic industry precedent that doesn't only affect miscalculations and mistakes; it encroaches onto the basic divergence component involved in originality and vision. It creates a "safety" net that potentially filters anything that strays beyond the demonstrably paper-thin area of confort beyond the average consumer's expectations.
And that's of course made even worse because of the basic human conceit, nurtured by social media, that rejecting something outright somehow involves more personality and insight than accepting something outright.
