Red ruri was too smart for her own good at that age. She immediately started thinking about not dissapointing them and misconstrued what they said as dissaproval. Notice that he didn't say something like "no. She will NOT be a rock professor. I forbid it." He basically said, "I would hope she choses a career that is stable and financially viable" because he doesn't necessarily know what a geologist could possibly make since it's such an undernoticed profession. Red ruri should have just ignored them and continued her rock autism full force, eventually her parents would have looked into it and realized that an acedemic/scientific profession does stand to make a respectable amount of money, at which point they would take her more seriously. At 5 years old, many children want to be dinosaurs when they grow up. An off hand converstation that her parents probably forgot about days after it happened should not have been enough to completely alter the course of red ruri's life, but alas, she has crippling autism. If they were to have a conversation now that she's a JK, they would likely be supportive of her dream if they see that she's serious about it, even if it wouldn't end up making her a sizeable income. They're good parents and the people in this thread who are calling them shit are projecting their own feelings towards their shitty parents onto the show. In reality, red ruri is just too autistic for her own good, but her parents love her very much and want the best for her
She has it in her mind that geology is some "locked off" and "forbidden" career that would bring dishonoru to her famiru, but the truth is, they just want her to be happy and safe, and will support her decisions when she makes them
