When you enter a sports/tournament themed show like this one you expect that cocky talented "wins by sheer determination rather than just talent alone" you usually get some chosen one underdog who's been kept a secret by his foster mother to add some backstory to him. It's present in every show like that. That's why people complained about Naruto & Ash Ketchum ruining the show, but Bianca & Loki ruin their own show even harder than Steven Universe ruins his own show. Fucks sake people were complaining about Megalobox not having good enough choreography and the final fight being skipped and both the protagonist and antagonist gimping themselves too much.

Often times people get tired of the sport itself and accidentally end up enjoying the story-driven B plot arc going on in the background, just like Pokemon. It's par for the course with these shows.
VERY RARELY do you get a show that gets both done correctly and doesn't end up being mediocre sloppa. I do miss sports cartoons, they used to be everywhere, especially in toy commercials.
I accidentally ended up watching Beyblade and Galactik Football myself and somehow managed to watch an entire season despite how mediocre they are cause they sometimes have some good scenes that take me by surprise and they're not as bad other shit cartoons like Naruto and Pokemon that pretend to be tournament based cartoons.
It's also really funny when non-tournament shows end up making better tournament sports-styled episodes such as Wakfu and Boondocks.
