It's the downtime, and the continuity. Everything's optimized to give you nonstop action. It used to be that games had rough edges. You'd have to manually find groups to do dungeons. You had to walk or hitch a ride to where people were getting shot.

You'd wait 15 seconds to respawn, during which you might say something. But here's the crazy part, they'd be people who didn't just forcibly vanish once the round ended, so you would be subjected to simple tit for tat in social interactions. If you'd be a raging autist in the chat, eventually people would learn to avoid interacting with you. Rub elbows with the same people enough times and you eventually find friends that will last you years.

But anyway that ain't profitable so we just don't do it anymore.
