Its the weird nature of a subgenre of games. Not all shmups are bullet hells and in those games you might actually have to watch where you're shooting. But Bullet hell games usually aren't those type of games. Your own bullets have the habit of going behind the enemy bullets even when they're color coded with heavy contrasts so you could see them better.
