I don't speak for most of /v/. But for me personally as someone that never liked God of War, the new games just proved to me that God of War is a hypocritical insincere franchise.
>Never covered the real fucked up aspects of Greek Mythology
>Got most of Greek Mythology wrong
>Superficially covered it all with blood, guts and shit that Americans would find "offensive" or "hardcore" rather than cover the truly alien aspects of Ancient Greek mythology that's barely represented in media.
>Pretty much was mogged by Asura's Wrath which did the concept in a far more interesting way and had a more emotionally interesting protagonist.
And now with Norse myth it ATTEMPTS to do the same thing, but tries to have a more emotionally vulnerable Kratos. But it still engages in ultimately the same issues, it gets a lot of Norse mythology wrong, it superficially adds shocking moments without covering them with the depth they desire, and all feels very superficial and banal. And that's not even talking about how mediocre the writing is. It doesn't help that in NONE of the games has Kratos ever felt like a truly Ancient Greek man. In the OG Trilogy, he barely feels like a Spartan other than what a superficial Anglo-centric idea of a Spartan is. And in the new games, he's just a world-weary stereotypical "wise man" who at the same time is deeply ashamed of his past, but barely embodies any actual Greek thinking or mindset.
It all feels so fucking superficial and I hate it, and the new games just double down on it. If anything the new games feel even more emotionally unintelligent at times, just with a pseudo-intellectualist attempt to seem emotionally intelligent when it barely is.
