While it eventually stops being effective at late levels even with the prodigious sums you require because the time between levels starts taking a good period, I like to use training in skills the character doesn't use as a gold sink. It doesn't gain them anything beyond leveling since they're not skills I use on that character but depending on char lore I might end up nabbing a certain magical resist on a non-magic user or the like.
