Its less that the tree was burnt and moveso that a geriatric above average warrior and an above average necromancer/ranger managed to defeat Malfurion the walking god in his home territory without sustaining any injuries.
In the trailer for the patch Malfurion without any visual effort causes roots to spring up under a orc and drag him underground before closing the hole, burying him alive.
Why didn't he just do that here?

This also made 0 sense after the lore was expanded upon and we know more about Cenarius's capabilities but at least it can be somewhat explained with the Orcs being juiced up on Fel which is an effective measure against Nature and Orcs didn't just 2v1 Cenarius.
