I wasnt there for Katrina, I did work down there years later. Most of what I took away from the dudes that lived through it were:

I never felt safe living there. Between the nigs being shitty and the general unsafe environment created by a liberal enclave that fleeces public funding/privatized the wrong shit to the wrong people, it was always a nightmare trying to simply exist.
