This is always the mindset of suits with zero interaction with community or fandom; they assume that no matter what, their audience will accept anything, so don't bother appealing to them; dilute your mechanics, dampen your story, broaden your appeal by removing depth and complexity to try and chase some mythical lowest common denominator audience they just KNOW is out there, because muh analytics and cunts on twitter insist.
