Dragon Quest: Gradual decline after PS2 starting with visual encounters. The side games are still mostly great. Builders 2 is 10/10. Treasures is 2/10 but is the exception.
Final Fantasy: Dropped off hard after 12. Company decided to stop having gameplay in favor of strict moviegames.

I think the fault is more that these series are talked about and then retards think that means they should buy the newest one. It's not the same people still supporting them unquestioningly except by having discussion of their existence and past glory.

Have you played DOS2? They 100% were appealing to (their) audience. I do think that BG3 is more successful than it really is (if that make sense) due to most sales being made due to memes, the hype train, as a way to rebel (the "please don't hold us to the standard of BG3" kerfuffle), and all the variety of reactions between the party members and NPCs make the game seem like it has more depth than it actually does. A mistake of taking the novelties and variety dialogue with believing there would be actual depth and complexity in the actual gameplay.
