If you already have a hobby see if there's an in person hobby group for it that meets near you. Lastly and this is kind of scraping the barrel but you can go to a volunteering group near to you, I stress near because if you like it but it's far away it's going to become a chore.
In either of these scenarios you may have to stomach going 3-4 times before any rubber meets the road in terms of making friends.
