>after what happened with the Wii U
Yes part of why Wii U was a huge flop is because a lot of people thought it was just like a peripheral for the Wii instead of a full on successor console to the Wii.

But honestly the Xbox naming conventions were even more retarded with them releasing stuff like Xbox One X and Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S which is just confusing to consumers. Can you imagine being an elderly grandma trying to buy an Xbox as a Christmas present for their grandchild and being confused by all these different names?

There must have so many instances where a little kid was begging for an Xbox Series X and the confused grandma bought them an Xbox One X which was PREVIOUS generation hardware. This is something that Sony did right because every new console generation is just PlayStation [number]. You don't need to research into the subject, if Sony releases a PlayStation 6 you know it's the new generation of PlayStation consoles.
