You're right. He wouldn't know what a kiss signifies, or if he did, the knowledge would come from the stories Maria read him. He wouldn't get the significance of a kiss, he wouldn't get why the location of a kiss matters, he would wonder why humans would willingly share germs with each other. He also wouldn't understand it if he felt romantic love. He might think something is wrong with him, or try and avoid the person in question. It wouldn't click for him until it's too late to reciprocate.

Shadow is a bit naïve in regards to his life experience and knowledge of culture/social interactions. But his naïveness is often overshadowed by his serious and pragmatic nature, leading people to think of him as more mature/experienced than he really is. It's a bit frustrating because casual fans interpret him as a well-adjusted chad bad boy type, erasing the naïvety entirely...but I guess the alternative is having that naïveness played up. Thank god I'm not a Silverkek.
