i think in another vein i might also have, like,. admittedly...??? some allowance to her because i was also incredibly sheltered and naivegrowing up and am still claimed to be such, like.. i dunno. to me, there were a few moments where i was like "girl ok thats a bit much", but, thats on the direction of the moment in the end and not her overall character..
nta you replied to with that sentiment ofc but
>It's really fucking hard to write a teenager that feels realistic without being patronizing and who feels flawed without being stupid
this is very true. writing a genuine coming of life story is difficult as fuck without also sounding, like, either self-inserting of wishing for unrealistic better highschool days, far too adult for the setting, or just general sort of alien understanding...
in the end, i'm curious where her character goes. not even just because.. well, i like her character, but i want her to stick around because i do feel like there's good growth for her but i also feel like i'm going to be disappointed
wuk is very, very much of a character whom i feel is.. like.. a good concept, a good... structure to work off of, but in the end a lot of the writing fell flat and a bit of that also has to do with xiv's general problem of the fact /you/ are the MC, yet, you are in the end a bystander, thus characters must be written around you while not having entirely the spotlight on them, but when spotlight's on them in order to rlly write out their growth, it's an issue bc you're the MC... ffxiv has awnestly brought itself into a corner in that way, imo.
