ENTER Last Faith
>no contact damage from normal enemies
>hovewer, if enemy has spikes or some other dangerous things in their bodies, you get contact damage from running into them
>certain parts of enemy movement enable contact damage momentarily in a way that makes sense, for example a giant cannoneer can hurt you with his cannon if he turns around, swinging his cannon to reposition
Contact damage was a necessity 30-40 years ago but now no self respecting 2d game should employ it unless it's an organic part of enemy's identity. In Last Faith there's no contact damage with a few exceptions of enemies that have spikes or worms coming out of them. And it feels like a neat gimmick for those particular enemies.
