I know what they were thinking, I just think that it would have been nice if during the planning they had heavy rocks chucked at their head until they stopped thinking that. I wouldn't have wanted my SNES Classic to come with Dual Shocks because they knew some day PS1 games could be hacked into it, I wanted a SNES themed device.
There are a bunch of generic 6 button arcade machines you can buy that can play everything. If I am buying an official Neo Geo MVS arcade machine, I want the Neo Geo experience with the proper look and controls. Even if you ignore aesthetics, using the top row of a 6 button layout as B, C, D and the leftmost button of the bottom row as A is just plain inferior to a dedicated 4 button layout.
