It's not about them being deep or shallow to me. I think both P3 and P4 have good structure for social links. All of them follow the core theme of the game, like every slink in 3 has something to do with death, loss and rebirth and 4's slinks have the character wind up back at the start but with a fresh perspective after dropping some sort of baggage or incorrect view.
P5 tried to make them too involved and it dragged the game's pacing down to hell. If they stay, they should be short and sweet, not the main part of the game. It should remain a dungeon crawler at heart.

Despite saying this, I know most Personafags wouldn't dare play anything that doesn't make them feel like a beloved teenager.
