These people are starving to death; mothers have to pick and choose favorites between which children live or die and people who are just saying whatever they can that they think will most likely ensure their survival.
Because they stand a considerable chance of being murdered with gunfire or explosives every time they are forced to address IDF militants like this, just to explain why they're trying to live in their own homes instead of the tent camps that get bombed and burned down constantly.
