Bear in mind these are the people who famously go into battle wearing wedding dresses or naked becuase they honestly believe it will magically protect them from bullets.
It's not that they aren't serious. They are very serious. They just have no idea what they are doing.
I have a picture somewhere describing, IIRC, some bushwar in South Africa. The Boers kept capturing african weapons and found the sights all dialed up to maximum range. Eventually they found out that the africans thought the numbers meant that was how hard the bullets would shoot so decided to turn it up to maximum. They had no idea that it was to zero the aim for distance. Sadly I cant seem to find it, but it always makes me chuckle.
