Subsonic 5.7 is literally worse than .22lr, and I'm not even trolling. Since .22lr headspaces on the rim and uses a heeled bullet, the length of the case doesn't matter and you can use a .22 short case with an extra long (and heavy) bullet to reach the same OAL as .22lr, which allows 60+ grain bullets. 5.7 headspaces on the shoulder so the case can't be changed, you're limited to 40-50gr bullets, tops. Since they're both limited to the same speed but .22 can be heavier, it's actually the more powerful cartridge.
5.7 isn't a terrible cartridge but I can't imagine a dumber idea than loading it to be subsonic. It wouldn't even be able to cycle the action so you'd turn your high capacity SMG into a straight pull bolt action firing a literal squirrel cartridge.
