I used to write for my college newspaper, this is some hackish bullshit, but you can't really expect much from someone whose expected to churn out multiple articles a day.
My graphs are based on statistical analysis, and I only say the game is declining if I can demonstrably prove it. The facts are facts and I don't post graphs until a week out from each season, midway through, and once again when the season is about to end.
Also: "Overwatch 2, meanwhile, launched on Steam with 75,000 players in August of 2023. Today, this current increase has hit 53,000 concurrents a full two years later. You can see the difference."
He even ends his article talking about how Overwatch has declined from launch lmao. Yea, maybe not as significant from it's 655,000 concurrent launch, but OW2 wasn't on steam when it launched either so it's not entirely represtantive of what Overwatch's actual decline has been like. (It likely much worse since it was at one point a top 5 game in the world).
Recently, I've been measuring seasons by retention because I feel like that gives us a more accurate view of how the seasons are performing vs simple season-over-season decline, which usually fails to capture if player reception to a season is good or not.
