long-time fan but I gotta admit that's pretty much it.
Especially Symphonia was kinda esoteric in how you get skills and without looking it up you'll just get random skills, not that it matters much.
It's mindless fun and you rarely get options to customize, the one exception being your 4-8 (maybe 12 with shortcuts) bigger moves you'll need to select and unless you want to embed aggressively retarded menuing into your combo you are stuck with your choice for the battle
Some games make you pick one of two paths for a character, it basically boils down to "fun to play but hard to master" and "shit but simple", see Judith Ground vs. Air or any ToS Character T vs. S styles.
The most fun I had was playing Patty in ToV since you get a little setup you have to complete and hold more or less hitless in order to really go ham (holding on to perfect Forme) while always in the danger of self-sabotaging (this later on gets fixed with skills if you're a pussy)
