Yeah, it was a stupid war.

The United States never invaded North Vietnam because they thought if they did China would enter the conflict as they did during the Korean war which could lead to a WWIII scenario.

So the United States couldn't go on offense and their entire strategy became a defensive war of attrition under the assumption that eventually the Vietnamese would get tired of getting killed and give up. They never did. The war lasted over a decade and about 2 million people died; but they got the W.

It goes to show the stupidity, arrogance and greed of the American military industrial complex. They'll fight a war with no actual plan to win it content that they're making money for defense contractors.
