Dess probably isn't hiding from the police but she would definitely be depressed like Basil from OMORI which would connect to her becoming the knight.
I would really hate if Asriel was revealed to be dead all along but it does parallel Undertale's story with Flowey being Ralsei, both being made of Asriel's dust and Kris absorbing Asriel's sould like he absorbed Chara's soul in Undertale. I don't think this would change anything about Gaster's involvement
