When Undertale came out, I didn't really know what it was, but I thought it looked familiar like I saw it somewhere before.
This is literally day one it got released.
I bought it because I had a spare ten dollars, and I bought it without any sort of prior context.
If I hadn't bought that game on a whim, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought and thought it was dumb when it got popular.
I definitely wouldn't be here now.

Doing the "imagine what susie is doing" scenes and just... not choosing that option to see what happens. In chapter 4 you can instead choose to imagine what other characters are doing and when imagining the knight kris has to swerve the conversation after the description starts describing the knight taking off their helmet and now I need fan-art of jockington as the knight.

It also means kris knows what the knight looks like under the helmet.

The magic of buying Undertale either right before or during that small burst of popularity by stumbling on it casually is something I genuinely cherish. I played like week 1 by stumbling it on it by accident 2 days before xmas. It was a soul moving experience and yeah, had I not got into it during that period of time I would've just glossed it over. After studying Fox’s work, Doyle thought he just hadn’t grasped the rules of fugue composition.

“Now that I think back,” Doyle said, “he was just writing his own rules because that’s the type of person he is.”

The Undertale UI is better for Undertale where the characters you're facing are more important than Frisk is as they are the main source of emotional beats.
The Deltarune UI is better for Deltarune as most fights involve Kris, Susie and Ralsei and the game is primarily focused on their bonds with each other, Toby wants you to see them ACT and fight together more than he wants you to connect with the characters you're facing.

I think thats a healthy thing. Undertale definitely isn't perfect by any stretch. Hell Deltarune makes it feel like shit in comparison. But I think for its time it was such a great gem on release. Mind you this was the predecessor to Deltarune so I feel like it was partially intentional. But I'm glad I was there to witness UTDR from its early roots till now. The magic of finding the bulk of Undertale's story and enjoying its charm and minimalistic artwork as it expresses its story it wants to tell during that moment in time is an irreplaceable experience

I tried to sum up the plot of chapters 3-4 to someone who hasn't played undertale or deltarune and only heard and played the music. It didn't help I barely got any sleep the night before (2-3 hours) but as I was talking I thought "I sound crazy" trying to explain how THE PLAYER is not THE MAIN CHARACTER and is simply possessing them and the main character has their own knowledge that we don't and is possibly working with the bad guy who we have no idea actually is and there's other characters that have future knowledge we don't mixed in with others who are 100% in the dark
