Most people are sinful fucks that don't deserve good things in life. Coincidentally, most people don't get good things in life, take from that what you will. Personally I don't have pets because of the dirtiness, but at least the animal is pure, without the original sin. Through an animal you can see God, through a human you see sin. Especially a wilder animal like fox or a wolf hybrid. Everyone dies in the end anyway. This is not about saving lives, you should still pick the human if it's a choice. But when it comes to philosophy and companionship there is nothing wrong with having a pet. Preferably just not an enslaved species because it's fucking awkward.
