Weapon rank wank has to be the most perplexing thing that came out of Engage discussion. Griffin stats are pure ass for combat, who cares that it can use, what, the brave axe? A silver greataxe?? Like I said, it's gigacope all the way down.
You generally want to be using forged C-tier weapons in Engage, steels, killers, the Heroes weapons. Everybody can access the C tier, so it's a moot point. It isn't worth it to go into a shitty class line like Paladin to bonk enemies with A-tier fodder weapons that you're probably not even forging because they're too situational and expensive.
Griffin is best in class for staffing, but the problem is it's outclassed as pure muscle and as flying muscle.
This happens a lot in Engage, in fact. Yes, I could run a Sage - the worst of both Griffin and Mage Knight. Or I could run a Griffin or a Mage Knight and partition the roles out instead. Emblems encourage this. I'm not putting an emblem on a mediocre combat unit, after all.
